16-Bit 100ksps Sampling ADC with Bipolar 10V Inputs

The LTC1605IG#PBF is a 16-bit sampling analog-to-digital converter from Analog Devices (Linear Technology) that samples at 100 ksps and accepts true bipolar plus/minus 10 V inputs directly. The trimmed input range means a plus/minus 10 V industrial signal connects without a level shifting amplifier, which removes offset and gain error sources from the front end of an instrumentation or ATE channel.

Conversion runs from a single 5 V supply and draws only 55 mW, while signal-to-noise ratio reaches 86 dB, so the full 16-bit resolution is usable in practice rather than on paper. Results are read over a parallel interface that connects directly to a DSP, FPGA or microcontroller bus, and the SSOP-28 package keeps the converter close to the sensor on dense boards.
